Worship Matters: Christmas 2010 – HOPE

This is a huge week at MPCC. Each night we will be assembling the pieces of a puzzle. It’s going to be a powerful weekend as we tell the story of Jesus coming to give us hope.

We live in a world that is desperately in need of hope. On a recent night I was watching our local news and within 5 minutes I found myself starting to feel discouraged by the stories. Job loss, murder, corruption, violence….the list could go on and on. Such desperation. Such darkness.

The world is in need of hope…..of light. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) We have the honor of telling that story. A story of light, redemption and hope.

What do you think of when you say the word hope? I tend to think of the word anticipation. I like that word a lot. One of the definitions of the word anticipation is: realization in advance; foretaste. What a word picture that paints….foretaste. I like that word a lot too. Those of us who walk with Jesus live in anticipation. Our best times here on earth are merely a foretaste of what the Father has in store for us and we work tirelessly to live out that message and share it with those around us.

It is from this perspective that we have planned, worked, strategized and rehearsed these last several months. “Joy To The World….A Night Of Hope” is a tremendous opportunity for us to share the message of hope with a world that is desperately searching for something to believe in. I hope that you will join us in prayer as we approach this coming weekend. It is such a tremendous opportunity. Let’s fill this place with people who need to hear the message of hope.

4 Service Times This Weekend:
Friday, December 10 at 7pm
Saturday, December 11 at 6pm
Sunday, December 12 at 9 & 10:45am

I hope that you will consider joining us for one of these special services. There will be lots of familiar seasonal music as well as some new songs. Our 100-voice children’s choir will be singing in addition to our adult choir & orchestra. You’ll enjoy drama that will make you laugh and also reflect on the meaning of the season as we meet the Bluff family: David, Laura, Brianna & Jeremy (with Sophie the dog). Watch as they wrestle with keeping their priorities in the right place as they work through the busy-ness of preparing for Christmas.

I hope to see you there! Merry Christmas!
