The Easter Journey: Protect Our Hearts
Throughout Scripture we are warned about the heart. It can produce both wonderful emotions and harmful emotions when not kept in check. As followers of Jesus, it is so important that we keep our hearts in tune. One of favorite hymns contains these incredible lyrics:
Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing
call for songs of loudest praise.:: “Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing”
What an amazing prayer for us as we make the journey toward Easter….God, tune my heart to sing Thy grace. Focus my thoughts, emotions and attitudes on You. Enable and empower me to hear Your still, small voice. Let my actions aspire to Your actions. Let this be as natural as breathing….overwhelm me with a sense of Your love for me and, allow it to spill out of my heart and life into everything that I do. Let it overflow into every relationship that I have, both new and old. And, allow it to position my heart to follow You above all else.
Here is a prayer that is helping my focus today.
God in heaven and in my life,
guide me and protect me.
I so often believe I can save myself
and I always end in failure.
Lead me with your love away from harm
and guide me on the right path.
May your Spirit inspire the Church
and make us an instrument of your love and guidance.
