Worship Matters – 8.17.08
This past Sunday was a real celebration of God’s faithfulness. It was such an honor to look into the faces of the congregation and see them actually pausing to remember times in their lives when they have come face to face with the faithfulness of God. It was awesome.
We used a song by Tommy Walker called, “We Will Remember.” It is such a powerful song and he paints these amazing pictures with the lyrics. Check out these lyrics to the chorus and first 2 verses:
We will remember, we will remember, we will remember the works of Your hands. We will stop and give You praise for great is Thy faithfulness.
You’re our Creator, our life sustainer, Deliverer, our comfort our joy.
Throughout the ages You’ve been our Shelter, our peace in the midst of the storm. With signs and wonders You’ve shown Your power, with precious blood You showed us Your grace. You’ve been our Helper, our Liberator, the Giver of life with no end.
Wow, those words just rock me. Just to see them in print and get the chance to pause and sing them in worship was an amazing experience. I find myself captured with the idea of remembering. It can be such a powerful experience to stop and remember all that God has done in our lives. We can remember times of distress when HE delivered us. We can remember times of celebration, devotion, sacrifice and worship. We can remember God’s amazing faithfulness to us throughout our lives. Remembering can lead us into a deeper walk with God. As HE orders our steps, those memories can spur us on to greater things and can encourage us as we strive to be the people of God. Through those powerful memories, God teaches us, not simply for the sake of our learning but for the sake of our future. Those memories build the foundation for a lifelong walk with God.
Later in the song, Tommy brings it to an amazingly personal level:
I still remember the day You saved me, the day I heard You call out my name. You said You loved me, would never leave me and I’ve never been the same!
I would encourage you to take some time and look back on God’s faithfulness in your own life. I hope this song is an encouragement to you. Here is the audio of us doing “We Will Remember” from yesterday.
Thanks for posting this song on your blog. I’ve been listening to it in the mornings when I get ready for work – what a fantastic way to start my day! Remembering all that my Heavenly Father has done for me!
