Food & Fun: Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza

If you know anything about me you know that I absolutely love a good meal. I enjoy food. I enjoy making meals an experience. I really enjoy places that are off the beaten path. Chains can be ok, but I really like the mom -n- pop kinds of places that not everybody knows about.

Near the top of that list for me is Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza in Indianapolis. This place is a total find. Great food at fairly reasonable prices is difficult to find. It’s even harder to find places that are actually doing something different. They are doing just that at Jockamo’s.

Located in Irvington (near eastside of Indy – take Washington St West from 465 and you will hit Irvington in about 3 miles or so) Jockamo takes pizza seriously. Herb crust, check. Fresh local ingredients, check. Homemade breadstick sauces, check (the Creamy Parmesan is unbelievable).  Homemade salad dressings, check.

I am all about furthering and protecting places like this. I highly recommend this place.

My pizza of choice is the “Slaughterhouse Five.” It’s a man’s pizza for sure, loaded with 5 different kinds of meat; but, Kim enjoys it too. Directly from their menu, here is the description: “In honor of Indy’s Own Kurt Vonnegut – Pepperoni, Ham, Sausage, Bacon & Italian Beef.” They have 15 other gourmet types of pizza’s as well as a “Create Your Own” menu. I have also had the BBQ Chicken pizza that includes bbq sauce from GT South’s in Indy – exceptional as well. But, for me, the choice is always the Slaughterhouse Five.

Yesterday for lunch, the tab was about $25 (including tip) for 2 drinks, breadsticks and a medium Slaughterhouse Five. We also had leftovers. Is that higher than Pizza Hut? You bet. Are you getting a completely different level of quality for the price difference? Absolutely.

I would encourage you to visit Jockamo’s. Tell them you read about it in my blog and maybe it will get me a freebie! 🙂
